Role overview:

We are seeking a proactive and analytical Origination Analyst to support our Origination Team UK & Ireland wide. This role is ideal for early-career professionals with a passion for high-growth businesses and strong research capabilities.

The Analyst will focus on identifying promising companies through desktop research and market mapping, helping to build a robust pipeline of potential investments for BGF and acquisition opportunities for BGF’s portfolio.

Key responsibilities: 

Company Research & Screening

• Evaluating growing privately owned businesses that align with BGF’s investment criteria (companies with profits of £1m - £10m (or £3m+ ARR for technology businesses))
• Identifying these companies using a variety of origination tools/ sources & databases and desktop research
• Tracking market intel to spot emerging opportunities

Market Mapping

• Conduct thematic research to map out attractive sub-sectors, conferences and events
• Presenting summaries/ key research outcomes from mapping out attractive sub-sectors

Outreach to & interaction with companies

• Preparing internal briefing notes and slide decks for new company meetings
• Attending supervised calls with target companies
• Reviewing, managing and responding to website enquiries, liaising with the relevant regional Origination Team member

Acquisition Support for Portfolio Companies

• Identify and screen acquisition targets aligned with the strategic goals of existing acquisitive portfolio companies

CRM and Deal Flow Management

• Maintain and update target companies and overall pipeline using CRM
• Ensure accurate documentation of all outreach contact and research notes in BGF’s CRM

Project based initiatives

• Assist with one-off research projects for the Origination Team

Skills & Attributes:

• Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
• Financial literacy
• Proficiency in using company databases and desktop research tools
• Written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear summaries
• Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
• Self-starter attitude with strong attention to detail
• Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and online research tools
